Switch from LastPass to Proton Pass
Proton Pass can import a LastPass export directly. You export your vault as a CSV file, import it in the Proton Pass browser extension, delete the file and then your LastPass account.
Good to know
- The exported CSV file contains all your passwords in plain text. Do the export on your own computer and delete the file right after the import.
- Deleting your LastPass account is permanent and cannot be undone.
- Menu names are given as the official help pages name them. They can differ slightly depending on app version and language.
Steps
Install Proton Pass
Create a Proton account and install the Proton Pass browser extension. The import runs in the extension.

Export your LastPass vault
Open your LastPass vault and go to Advanced Options > Manage your vault > Export. LastPass sends you an email: confirm it with Continue export. Go back to the same menu, confirm with your LastPass username and master password and save the .csv file. Alternatively, in the LastPass browser extension: Account > Fix a problem yourself > Export vault items > Export data for use anywhere.

Import into Proton Pass
Open the Proton Pass extension, go to ☰ > Settings > Import, choose LastPass as provider, drag the .csv file into the file box (or select it) and click Import.
Check the result and delete the CSV file
Check a few logins and secure notes in Proton Pass. Then delete the .csv file and empty the trash, because the file is not encrypted.
Change important passwords
Proton points out that LastPass vault data was likely affected by the LastPass breach. Change the passwords of your most important accounts, such as email, banking and cloud storage. Proton Pass can generate new passwords for you.
Delete your LastPass account
If you know your master password, delete the account on your LastPass My Account page. If you don't, use the Delete your account page on lastpass.com. This is permanent.
